Legendary Sufi singer Abida Parveen turns 65 today


HYDERABAD: 20, FEBRUARY/ 2019: Tuesday 20 February 2018: Legendary Sufi singer and queen of singing Abida Parveen turned 65 today. Abida Parveen, who promoted Sufi teachings through music and singing is celebrating her 64 birthday today.

She was born on 20 February 1954 at Larkana, Sindh to a family of singers and musicians, her father Ustad Ghulam Hyder, who was a famous musician and who also became her music teacher.

Abida started her singing in 1977 from Radio, Pakistan and since then Abida has become an ambassador of peace and Sufism.

Renowned Indian poet and filmmaker talking about Abida’s singing once said that when Abida sings it seems as though she is praying.

Abida has sung poetry of famous Sufi poets like Baba Bullay Shah, Amir Khusru, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, Sachal Sarmast, Bhagat Kabir and others.  (01)
